Sustainably sourced Lemongrass

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) is a tall, perennial grass in a class of about 45 species of grasses native to the tropical and sub-tropical climates of Asia, Australia and Africa. The stalks grow in clusters, similar to spider plants, and can reach anywhere between six to ten feet in height. A stalk of lemongrass consists of a pink base, a few tough green husks, and a white core, which is what is used in cooking.

We source our dried lemongrass and lemongrass oil from a social and economic impact farm in Cambodia where the crop is lifting many farmers from poverty. That's because there is a growing demand worldwide for products that include lemongrass because of the plant's many health benefits.

For example, Just one tablespoon of lemongrass contains .4 milligrams of iron, or five percent of the recommended daily intake (RDI) for men and two percent for women. One tablespoon also contains 1one percent the RDI of folate, potassium, magnesium, zinc, and phosphorus. Studies have connected the regular consumption of lemongrass to a lower level of LDL cholesterol. Lemongrass is high in several antioxidants and one of the main components of lemongrass, citral, is also known to have anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties.

Lemongrass Oil
Extracted from the leaves and stalks of the lemongrass plant, lemongrass oil has a powerful, citrus scent. In manufacturing, lemongrass is used as a fragrance in deodorants, soaps, and cosmetics. Lemongrass is also used in making vitamin A and natural citral.

Lemongrass Essential Oil is derived from the steam distillation of the fresh or partly dried Lemongrass leaves. After distillation, the oil ranges in color from yellow to amber and exudes a fresh, sweet, grassy and citrus-like aroma.
